This innovative design moves the mast position 40mm closer to the front foil, unlocking new levels of surf performance and responsiveness. The current Black fuselage range remains perfectly suited for most riders across all disciplines, but the Black ADVANCE models don’t replace them — they enhance them, offering a more connected, agile, and reactive feel for riders pushing their limits. If you’re an intermediate to expert surf or wave foiler, this upgrade could change your game.
Moving the mast forward increases the effective length between the rear fuselage and stabilizer, which alters the feel and balance of the setup. To fine-tune this geometry, AXIS introduces a new fuselage size: the “Sillyshort.” When choosing your Black ADVANCE fuselage, it’s recommended to go one size shorter than what you usually ride. For example, if you currently use an Ultrashort, you might consider switching to a Crazyshort.
Available in three sizes — Ultrashort, Crazyshort, and the all-new Sillyshort (560mm) — the ADVANCE range is compatible with ART and HPS front wings, as well as smaller PNG and BSC wings. Compared to the standard Black fuselages, these new versions deliver a tighter, faster side-to-side roll and easier turn initiation, similar to moving your surfboard fins forward for quicker, looser performance in the pocket.
Of course, this added maneuverability comes with a small trade-off — slightly less tracking stability and a touch of top-end speed loss. You may also notice a minor effect on upwind ability when winging and might need to adjust your pumping technique. If your style leans toward big, fast surf, the regular Black fuselages will still be your best choice.
Because the mast is positioned 40mm further forward, you’ll want to move your base plate 40mm forward in the tracks to maintain the same overall foil balance and feel.
In keeping with AXIS’s sustainability goals, the Black ADVANCE fuselages come with custom protective covers and no cardboard packaging, reducing waste while providing superior protection and a premium finish straight out of the box.
